What's Going On

Curious George

Christopher's class acted out children's books for a 2nd grade class.  I was asked to video tape the performances and take photos of them with the 2nd graders.  Here's Chris as Curious George.  It was very cute:

 

Last night I went out to the movies after Christopher's baseball game.  We went out to celebrate my neighbors' birthday, we saw The Soloist.  It was good, but not as good as I thought it was going to be.. maybe it was the 2 margaritas we had before the movie.. :-) 

I promised I'd have baseball photos today, I lied.  It was too crazy between running Chris from religion and getting Steph to and from gymnastics.. I just never gotaround to grabbing my camera.. next game I promise!  Chris had fun as usual, they did not win, but played well, lost 9 - 6 I think, and were winning for a while.  Chris pitched well I'm told (I was off gettign Steph).  And I saw his great hit against a very fast pitcher.

Steph's cast is off and boy is she happy.  Her foot and leg are very weak so she has to take it easy, but she is so happy to be back on the dance floor and softball field!   (yes, and gymnastics too :-)

Field Hockey started today (Dilynn, where were ya?!?!? :-)   I teach an after school class, once a week for 4 weeks.  We had 23 girls.. not bad.  Steph humors me and plays when I teach it, but I know she'll never play on the team, she's a soccer girl.. oh well! 

Jeff and Chris leave for camping tomorrow.  Hope the rain stays away!   I am going to a Brownie meeting tomorrow.. we are having a mother daughter tea.  Should be nice.  the girls are preparing everythign for their moms who will come after the meeting for the tea.  Not only do I lead the brownies (with another mom) when Steph is off at gymnastics.. I will be leading a mother daughter tea, without a daughter!,   ha..  what can you do.  This is my last year as Brownie leader.

Why does she look like that?  They did face painting at kids night out on Friday night.  I think they are Harry Potter glasses.  And there is a monkey on her cheek.

Steph had ballet and a softball game today.  I think she acually does go through the ballet number on her crutches just so she can learn the dance.  At softball, she got to be "the shouter", the one who stands on the sidelines and yells "2 OUTS, PLAY IS AT FIRST BASE LIONS!".  They are the Lions Club team.. that's why they are Lions.

Chris has boy scouts tonight.  He and Jeff go camping this weekend. 

Chris is very excited too, tomorrow morning he starts "before school whiffle ball".  THAT is exciting for a baseball lovin' boy.

Today I took a photo of the entire 5th grade class (that's actually only about 90 kids.. ) I had help getting them set up, but the did a good job cooperating.  I took the picture at recess which is right after lunch.  And wouldn't you know, today was the FIRST DAY EVER, that the lunch lady gave the kids free "bug juice" (also known as bright red Kool-Aid), that leaves big red mustaches on their faces.  Perfect for the picture :-)

I helped coach Steph's softball game.. that was fun, the girls are great and so eager to learn.  then ran over to a (very long)  PTSO meeting.  

Chris and Jeff have bastball tomororw.  I WILL have pictures!

Hot, hot, hot!

It was HOT here today!!   The thermometer hanging out on the tree in the back said 100 degrees!  Now it really wasn't 100, the sun was just beating on the thermometer at that time.. but it was hot! 

Yesterday however (Saturday) was the perfect day to be walking around NYC.  Yesterday was our yearly Christmas extravaganza where Dad and Mom take us all to NYC for dinner and a show.  We saw Wicked, and this was the first year all 4 kids joined us.  Wicked was GREAT!!  If you have not seen it you should, it was VERY funny, and the singing was fantastic.  The kids really loved it too. 

Guess who we saw in the theater with us?  David Duchovny and Tea Leone!   Really truly!

Then we went to Tavern on the Green for dinner.  They kids behaved very well and ate very well (they have a kids menu believe it or not!)  And the food was terrific.  

Today the kids both had soccer games.   Chris's team is really playing well these days, they have been playing together for so long, they can pass to each other without looking.  They won 6 - 1.

Steph's team is still going through the start up blues.. still waiting for a win.. but it will come in time!  Steph is anxious to get back on the field and help them out.. she gets her cast off on Wed!   She does keep herself busy at the games though.  Today she was "umbrella girl", she held umbrellas over the girls as they came out of the game to keep the sun off of them (did I mention it was HOT?).  She also assisted and gave shoulder massages to the 3! girls on our team who had to come off the field after taking a ball in the face, OUCH!  That does not occur often, but today was not a good day for noses..

Chris and Jeff had baseball practice this afternoon as well.   Everyone got more than their share of sun today.

I have no photos.. very sad.  Since I'm one of the coaches for Steph's game.. I really don't get to take pictures while I'm coaching.   I think I'm going to try to next week though.   And Chris' team is either always home when Steph's is away, or like today, they both played at home at the same time on fields across town from each other!     I just checked next weeks schedule.. Chris plays in New Paltz and Steph plays in East Fishkill.. ugh.

I will take pictures on Wed at Chris' baseball game for sure!  I will also try to take a few at Steph's softball game on Tues, but first of all she will not be playing yet.. and second of all, I am coaching that team as well!

Stephanie had tap class today, softball practice, and soccer practice... yes, she's the one with a cast on her leg.  You should see her doing tap on crutches.  Yes, she goes through the motions so she can learn the dance for the recital.

Chris and Jeff had their first game tonight.. I hear the team had a bit of trouble with pitching.. but got some good hits.. Chris had 2 hits..  he had a great time, if he's on the baseball field.. he's having fun.

This month has gotten away from me, between puppet shows, Easter and sickness... I feel like April just slipped away.  Sorry to miss your birthday Mikey!

I am still coughing, but feeling much, much better.  Unfortunately now my dad has it.. hope you are feeling better soon dad!

I thought I would have some baseball pictures for you today... but opening day for Jeff and Chris was rained out.  They were both disappointed.  We'll try again on Thursday.

Steph gets her cast off a week from Wednesday, she is more than looking forward to it!

Busy weekend.  On Saturday Stephanie and I went to Danbury to meet two of my college roommates!  Sandy is from Arizona and was out East for a friends bar mitzvah.  Stephanie lives in Connecticut and she brought her 2 year old daughter Lily.  My Stephanie had a great time hanging out with Lily and Sandy, Stephanie and I had a great time visiting!

 

Christopher had a really busy day on Saturday.  He had to meet at the gun club at 7:45am to pick up garbage along the local streets with the boy scouts for 3 hours.  Right from there, Jeff took him to his 3 vs. 3 indoor soccer tournament where he played soccer for 3 hours.  Then he came  home, showered adn went to a friends birthday party.  He was a tired camper.  What was the best part of his day?  Picking up garbage with the boy scouts! :-)

Chris and Steph both had soccer games on Sunday.  Then Steph and I went to see the Hannah Montana movie after soccer, we took a friend of Steph's with us.  The movie was actually not bad.

Chris is learning swing dancing in school this week.  He likes it.

I'm almost back on track..

Still not 100% yet, but I'm going to try to get back to the routine tomorrow.  I hope nobody else gets this virus!  No fun.  I think Jeff is going to need a vacation after this week.  He's been going non-stop doing everything as well as trying to get his other day job done.

Well, you will be able to see how sick I was when I tell you that I was not feeling well enough to get my camera out on Easter Sunday.  And there were some great photo-ops.  We had 13 people here.. I didn't even get a shot of all of us around the Easter table (Jeff rotissered leg of lamb, it was very good!).  And the 4 kids put on a show for us.. a circus.  I didn't actually see it, I heard it through the wall, but from the laughter I heard, it was pretty funny.

Hello everyone, I'm still out here..

I have been sick for the past too many days and have been doing more sleeping and lying in bed than blogging..  I'm finally starting to feel better.  Will post some photos and news tonight.  I hope everone had a great Easter!

Hello, Happy Wednesday!

did anyone watch the Bonnie Hunt show today?  we did!  75% of the show was dedicated to Linda and Kaitlin Forbes (from Rhinebeck) and about the Rhinebeck Heart Safe club.  You can see it www.bonniehunt.com.

Well Jeff and Gramps have been very hard at work here since Sunday.  Here they are working..

 

I love the floor!  They finished the floor yesterday and finished the trim today.. it really looks amazing!! 

Steph has been spending some time scrapbooking.. Grandma brought her some really cool scrapbooking do-dads and she's been creating.

 

Tomorrow is marathon baseball.  Jeff and Gramps will be at "all day practice" with Jeff's team and some of the other A league teams.  They will practice in the morning, the coaches will bar-b-que for lunch (for all the kids), then scrimmage in the afternoon.  I don't know who's looking forward to it more, Chris, Jeff or Gramps!

Has anyone used those cool self scanning machines at Stop and Shop?  You take them with you as you shop, scan your groceries, put them in your bags as you shop, then don't have to take anything out of the cart at check out!  You can even use the self check out and really get out of there fast, I love it!

Chair Dancing and Bonnie Hunt

Last week the kids had a fundraiser at school called "Jump Rope for Heart".  There were a lot of kids there and they raised a lot of money!    I posted pictures of the event on my blog last week.  Well the gym teachers coordinated the event and when they saw my pictures online and talked about printing them I told them I would print them.  So I printed them all (well, all the good ones).  And they put them all on a bulliten board in teh hallway.. here it is!  Click on it to see it larger.

They are doing a dance unit in gym class these days... our gym teachers have been teaching at this school forever and they are terrific.  They really go above and beyond in all they do.  Well Steph has missed a lot of gym class with her foot problem and right now they are doing some fun dances in gyms.. the cha cha slide and Cotton Eyed Joe.  So one of the gym teachers brought a swivel chair on wheels into the gym and she pushed Steph around and let her chair dance for the whole class!  She had a ball!

Remember the photos of Chris and his scout friends handing out bags for Scouting for food.  Well Jeff went with Chris and teh cub scouts this week to pick up the full bags of food.  I would have guessed that most people woudl have forgotten over the course of a week of just not bothered.. well not true, there was one house with 7 bags on their porch.  Jeff said another person forgot to put the bag on their porch so they got in their car and drove after the scouts to give them the food.  Chris and his 2 friends were assigned about 10 streets in Rhinebeck to collect food from.  Jeff said they filled the van 3 times!  The food pantries were very happy with the amount of food collected!  it's nice to see that even in tough times, people are still wiling to help!

Be sure to watch the Bonnie Hunt show on Wednesday at 2pm!!!  A local Rhinebeck mom and her daughter (Linda and Kaitlin) will be on the Bonnie Hunt show!   Kaitlin just graduated Rhinebeck High School last year.  But when she was a senior, she had a heart attack during gym class on the softball field.  The teachers did CPR and ran to the the AED in the school.  If it had not been for these two things she would not have made it.  And, crazy enough, a year before that another Rhinebeck high school girl died from a heart attack.  Since it's such a small school, all the kids knew these girls well and were very much affected by it.  So Kaitlin's mom, with the help of some other moms and a bunch of the girls' friends formed the Heart Safe Club.  They raise money and buy AED for many buildings in town.  They also teach free CPR classes very often.  They were in People magazine a few weeks ago which led to the call from teh Bonnie Hunt Show.

Krazy Kids

Hello I'm back.  Busy week.  Puppet shows, Expo projects, more puppet shows.  Thurs night was the show for the parents.  Friday they took the show on the road and performed the puppet show for the local nursery school, the senior center at our church, and the brand new assisted living facility near our house.  It was fun to see the kids interacting with the seniors after the show.. this woman was 101 years old, she loved the show as you can see :-)

 

This girl in pink is Stephanie's "buddy" from her kindergarten buddy class.  she is hysterical.

 

grandma and gramps arrived on Saturday from Illinois..  the kids are very, very excited.  grandma and gramps went to Christopher's soccer game (he scored a goal!) and his baseball practice today.   Steph's team had a soccer game, I coached with some help from 2 other parents.. steph didn't play of course, but the team played very well! 

Today started the yearly house project.  Jeff and his mom and dad are putting wood flooring in the living room!  I'm very excited about that!
